Mario Mays is from Gainesville, Georgia, he started his coaching career at Lakeview Academy where he worked for 7 years. He worked 5 years with Richie Hughes and 2 years with Seth Vining.  After Lakeview Academy he worked at Wheeler High School with Doug Lipscomb where they won 2 state championships in 2008 and 2015 in class (6-AAAAAA).  They were the state runner up in 2014 (6-AAAAAA), and, they won 9 region titles in 11 years at Wheeler.  Coach Mays has had the pleasure of coaching 3 McDonald’s All-Americans (Jaylon Kendrick), (Jaylen Brown) and (E.J. Montgomery) and one pro Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics).  He was awarded state assistant coach of the year in 2009, region assistant coach of the year 2009, 2011, and 2012.  He also had the pleasure of coaching 50 plus young men who have played on the NCAA division 1 level.  His greatest accomplishment has been being able to see the young men he’s worked with receive over 4.3 million dollars in scholarship money to attend college and pursue their dreams.  Coach Mays is presently the varsity boy’s assistant coach, middle school track coach, and middle school P.E. teacher at Holy Innocents Episcopal School in Sandy Springs, Ga.
